Concept and Features

The Toscanna Gelateria is a local cafe situated in the suburban local town of Georges Hall.  The interior is inspired by mountains in the East and North of Italy, among them the Alpi Apuane. Covered with olive plantations, vineyards and sunflowers.

 

The interior showcases the history of the Toscanna region and the landscapes of natural beauty. The Toscanna Gelateria Naturale is a contemporary cafe that takes cues from Italian culture in its architecture and menu. The brief called for a space that was reminiscent of the streets of Italy, with a decidedly Sydney approach.

Looking every bit like your average local ice cream shop. The design objective was to allow customers to unwind, relax and feel at home on the streets of Italy. Focusing on capturing a warm, joyous, comfortable and inviting ambience. Inspiration is drawn from the streets of Italy, through a rich mix of modern finishes, patterns and textures. Each finish brings an element of tactility, texture and pattern.  The design embraces raw cement finishes, glazed tiles, recycled timber and carrara marble, ageing gracefully over time. The main feature of the interior is the sunflower art pieces found on the East wall, that mirror growth, beauty and balance.

The brief was to bring the outside in, allowing customers to feel at peace as they enjoy traditional Italian gelato. A kid friendly environment, crafted as an indoor mini playground for kids to draw, play and socialise. Every piece of joinery and furniture is customised to create a unique cafe experience for all ages. Throughout the day, natural lighting is the main light source for the cafe. Once night arrives, the space will be illuminated by feature lighting and accent lighting that will highlight all the details in the space.
